Audience research: what do we like about the documentaries we watch?

For some extra research of pre-existing documentaries, I decided to have a brief conversation with a friend about a documentary that they had recently watched. This was very helpful as I have realised using different forms of camera might work nicely in the narrative of my documentary. This may mean using a camcorder, iPhone, iPad film camera etc, which will also give me some good experience with working, editing and exporting different forms of tech. I am also considering using more interviewees in my documentary as they could help provide and unbiased and broader perspective on the topic that I decide to cover.
