Generic codes and conventions of documentaries

 

Here is a mind map I created on the general codes and conventions of documentaries to reinforce my knowledge the key elements that are expected of the genre. This was good exercise for me as I am about to begin production planning. I do not aim to apply all of the generic conventions to my documentary, however there are some that I find very interesting in existing docs. For example, archived footage really helps to add to the realism factor of the information that is being relayed to the audience.
