Evaluating pre-existing documentaries

In this blog I am evaluating a Netflix documentary series called ‘Explained’.

I discuss what the series is about and how it covers a lot of information within a 20 minuet time span. I have watched much of this series as I do believe they are an interesting and easy way to absorb information about things that you don’t know much about. However I have learned to watch subjectively, to not passively accept the information and perspectives that are being ‘explained’ to me. For example, they often only use one specialist in the area they are talking about because there is simply not enough time to interview another, meaning only one professional opinion is being conveyed.

Similarly I believe that they do not cover topics in enough detail. One example would be the episode of the gender pay gap, in which it’s ‘explained’ that it is simply because ‘ALL’ women have the capacity for pregnancy!

This particular episode got me quite riled up.

To conclude, this blog is me, personally evaluation a documentary series that I have watched in the past.

Here is a link to one of the episodes on YouTube: Explained episode
